I like Kingman Kid's answer, except I am concerned about the distributor location. If the '91 is like the '95, I don't see where the distributor is able to fit if it's at the rear. Kingman Kid said:Good Day Obeywon, Well..If the force is with you...

Good day, Did you discover where the Distributor is located? Are the wires coming from around the Crank pulley ? Is the water pump driven from the camshaft ?

Hi John,
As for the 305 build for power, there is a lot that can be done.
I had a 67 chevelle a long time ago, dropped a 305 in it bone stock, through in a small cam, dual quad intake and headers and with my 4 speed I pulled some nice street times, so I know it can be done.

As for you temp. issue, I suggest either changing the fan clutch or moving to an electric water pump. This would be of benefit both in power and temp. control.

A camshaft would be a great way to improve the engines abaility to run, I suggest a cam and lifter package (NON ROLLER) of 292 Degrees ADV. Duration and .480" Lift as a maximum. Look at Lunati under part number 00010LK for a cam and lifter set, at a cost of around $170.00.

Electric water pumps are available for a couple hundred bucks and the wiring is pretty straight forward.

I mentioned the exhaust in an earlier response, which would add on average of 15 - 20 percent in useable torque and horsepower.

If your engine is a roller cam, I suggest you chat or put a question to Spike on this site as he has a better understanding of the roller cam set up than I do.

The 305 can be a stout little small block if you put it together right.

Good Luck

Kingman Kid
