if its not providing the support needed for your axel it will make your ride hell. replace this and your rims --> done, then you should be back to a better cruz.
if uve seen T4 thats what probly happend to your jeep... still wasnt a bad buy. but ...
It took me a little over 4 years to get mine the way it is. A lot of after work and weekend time and I'm still tinkering on the 7 either changing or adding. What can I say but it's a Jeep Thing or Fever that makes a true Jeep fan always busy on their rigs.
It looks as if your cj5 has come in contact with a case of the rust bug? Do you plan on doing a major restoration to it. The color on my cj7 is a ( sunburst candy lime green with a gold flake ) and then I clear coated it. I did the paint job myself.
Well it seams like we might be on the right track. When I put my "51" Willys body on a 1978 Blazer chassis with the sbc and th 400 tranny the stock cable wouldn't even come close to reach the transfercase. I also put a stewart warner speedo in it. I went to the yellew pages and found a shop that builds speedos from scratch. It wasn't too expensive either. my new cable assembly came out about 8 inches too long so I routed it so there wasn't any kinks. It has been running perfect now for about 12 years. You might think about talking to a speedo shop and see what they suggest that way you aren't wasting any money buying stuff you don't need and putting into that great looking Jeep. They will most likely repair one of your old ones for a lot less than a new one, as long as they reach without kinking. I wanted a Jeep when I bought my Willys truck but I could not pass up the offer on this one. I have made a bunch of changes as you can see if you look at my before and after pics. I am also starting a flat fender project soon I hope. Anyway hope you get you cable problem straightened out, Later, Mo
Hi past, I think I might be able to help you. I had sort of the same problem. The inner cable should have a crimped ring on the speedo end to keep it from sliding down into the tranny. Check your by pulling the inner cable out and see if it #1 has that crimped ring and #2 that it is on the upper end in the speedo. You can also lube the inner cable while you have it out. If you hear a noise coming from the speedo the cable might be dry. The only other thing I can think of is that the inner cable is too long for the outter cable. If you or someone did an engine swap, with a new drive train, something may have gotten changed. I hope this helps, Later, Mo
