David...Call Edelbrock and ask them about power valves, pump plungers/springs, and float settings. Explain what your problems are, they have a great staff of technicians and I'm sure they can help to clear up any problems that may be in the carb.
It's hard to tell from your picture, but if you are running the original distributer, there are things that you can do to make it more responsive...but I don't know enough about any mods to be of help to you. Maybe some of the local race car guys in your area that race low budget classes can help because they squeeze every ounce out of an engine's performance and undoubtedly have done custom work on stock distributors. If you remove the dizzy, put it at TDC prior to pulling it, mark the location, then just put it back in the same place.
Rather than deal with an old dizzy on my rebuild, I went with a 8365 MSD Pro-Billet HEI distributor and a 8202 coil...get lots of firewower!!! As mentioned earlier, I feel that part of my hesitation is due to the vaccum advance not working correctly, so I will experiment with springs when the weather warms up here in WI. I may also have plunger problems with my Rochester 2G carbs, so will look at that too.
Another idea would be to search several of the forums with key words of distributor and Edelbrock 600 carb...maybe you'll get lucky and someone else has posted about the same problem.
Well i'm going aftermarket, but i have a friend that is gonna do all the seats some me! The rest of the interior i've already started to black it out, like the steering coloum, dash, console, and basicallyeverything except the door panels and armrests!
From Webb:
I was wondering if anyone knows how or what is going on with my carb. I have a edelbrock 600 cfi carb on a small block 350 engine. When I am stopped at a light or stop sign and push the gas to accelerate I get some hesitation from my carb. I have to let go and push it again.
Does anyone know why its doing that or how to fix this?
Webb...Your problem may not be the carb, however I don't have experience with that carb. Take a look at your vacuum advance...I have a hesitation similar to yours and have decided that the disributor is not reacting to the vacuum draw. You might also try removing your air filter to verify the problem isn't there.
Nice Camaro!!!
