I know a few guys that are serious into the restoration thing, but I have to confess I have done the same thing you did on the '69 and let it slip for the past few years. That's why I omitted posting the pics of my "71 in it's current state - sitting in the garage with the front up on jackstands. It's embarrassing to say that it's been that way for about 6 yrs. now waiting on the power steering parts that have been sitting next to it for most of that time. Non-automotive things got in the way, but I hope to do better this year! Since my residential contracting business is in the pits, I should have a lot more time on my hands. I'll mention the parts you have to those guys when I see 'em. BTW, I have a friend who is looking for a '57 ford courier PU. Know of any?
I am in the final stages of resurrecting a computer meltdown and had to relearn the hard way to back up data files (especially my car pics). But, $1400 dollars (to the hard drive resurrection angel) and $400 for new hardware and I'm almost back to where I was 3 wks. ago. So now I'm out of excuses.
I'll dig up the pics of my last effort that was actually completed (a '72 bought out of the weeds in '88) that became a very successful auto cross car. It also hit the corvette-only drags sponsored by a local club on 3 occassions. It would run 9:03 in the 1/8, which wasn't great for a drag car but not too shabby for a (355 4spd w/3:90 gears and DOT tires) road racer, and it would run it consistantly enough that it won 10 our of 10 events (brackets). It hasn't seen the track since '97 and sits patiently waiting for a new life.
I also have an '86 Z28 that I accidently came into ownership of a couple of years back that has a .040 over 350 race prepped the old school way (for drags) that is currently in the workshop waiting for seats (got) sriveshaft, 4 link (don't got) and a radiator mount bushing that nobody makes anymore. It's a pretty healthy build but I'm not convinced it will handle the 1050 demon that was in the parts box that came with it. My wife says I gotta finish it before I can play with anything else.
The red '71 (I bought in '88) has been sitting in the garage on jack stands for a lot longer than I care to admit to waiting for either new PS components (that have been lying in the floorboard for most of the time it's been on jacks) or for a complete rebuild. I actually decided a couple of years ago that it would be the body off resto, but there have been so many distractions....
Check my page this weekend. I'll have some pics up by then. Later
