If it truly is something in the rear end causing it to jerk (I'm thinking gear teeth broken), then just pulling the shaft will not help. Those (possibly) broken teeth will keep catching at times and could prove disastrous.

Congrats Tony! I'm still loving my first Jeep too! Thought I'd regret getting it, but not even close! BTW....love those Ohio Plates too. Whereabouts in the state are you? I'm near Toledo.
Also check your local salvage yards. Always a possibility there too, but donnie had a good suggestion with Davey's Jeeps. If they don't currently have it...they will most surely have it in the future (if not, find one for you).

I've thought about doing this when the 4.0 get's tired, but it'll be a while. I've only got 65,000 miles on it now. IMHO, Chrysler really missed the boat by not offering a 4 cyl turbo diesel in these, like they did in the Liberty's for two years.

Not sure what there may be here, but have you checked the classifieds at www.moparstyle.com? Excellent site for ALL things MOPAR. Arguably the best MOPAR site on the net!
Wow. Umm, I'd say anyone who is even thinking about answering, would need more info. Like, mainly, how are you planning on using the XJ? Simpler trails? Rock crawling? Mudding? Really might make a difference in how people answer and what opinions ...
