the heater core is fairly easy to change out. i think if you take off the passenger fender, you'll have an easier time. make sure you write down which bolts have shims, if any, as you take the fender off. otherwise it'll be a PITA to get it to line back up again when you put the fender back on.
well, ok, first things first, who did you order the pipe from? if you haven't ordered anything, i would recommend getting someone from either a muffler or pipe dealer on the phone and explain the situation to them. they will not steer you wrong and you'll get the right pipe lengths and bends that you need.
the gauges should be a straight swap, as long as you are using the correct type of gauge. there are analog gauges and digital ones, that get their signal from the computer. these are very specific gauges that need to be able to receive the correct signal range from the computer. there are specialty companies out there, and if you get a good guy on the phone he will lay out what you need.
anything else? sounds like you've got a decent project on your hands.
