buddy nelson,wellington,alabama. About my D100
(THE GENRAL LEE POWER WAGON)
THIS IS MY 1977 HEAVELY(REDNECK) MODAFIDE DODGE POWER WAGON.I`VE BEEN
WORKING ON THIS RIG FOR A FEW YEARS,AND IT HAS BEEN MODAFIDE BACK AND
FORTH SEVERAL TIMES .I STARTED WITH A $500.00 RIG,WITH A STOCK 318 MOTOR,
727 TRANSMISSIO 203 TRANSFER CASE,HALF TON RUNNING GEAR .WITH 3.55 GEARS.
SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE PUT A 440 MOTOR OUT OF A 1975 WINABAGO,THE 440
MOTOR HAS A 750 ELDERBRACK CARBORATOR,100 AMP ALTERNATOR OFF A 1976
POLICE CAR.WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE WINABAGOS 440 MOTORS,IS THAT THEY HAVE
A WINDAGE TRAY,TRUCK EXSHAUST MANAFOLDS, AND DOUBLE ROLL TIMING CHANE.
THE TRANSMISSION IS A 727 TORQUEFLITE,WITH A 96 DODGE TRUCK STOCK DEEP
TRANS PAN,ON THE 96 TRANS PAN,IT HAS A REUSABLE GASKET, THEN I DRILL A HOLE
IN THE TRANS PAN AND INSTALL A TEMP GAGE,I ALSO DRILL A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM
OF THE BELLHOUSING SO I COULD DRAN ANY WATER OR MUD THAT MAY GET IN THE
BELLHOUSING.I BOLTED A 98 DODGE STARTER ,THE 98 DODGE STARTER HAS MORE
TORQUE AND IS SEAL A LOT BETTER THEN THE 77 DODGE STARTER.I LEFT THE 203
TRANSFER CASE IN THE TRUCK.I HAVE CHANGE THE AXLES TO AN 8 LUG WHEEL PATERN.
THE FRONT AXLE IS A DANA 44 WITH A LOCKER AND 456 GEARS,I TOOK THE FRONT AXL
SHIFTS AND CUT THEM,SO THAT I COULD PUT SNAP RINGS IN PLACE OF THE U-JOUNT
C-CLIPS.I TOOK TWO OF THE LONG LEAFSPRINGS FROM THE REAR OF A DODGE PARTS
TRUCK,AND PUT THEM ON THE FRONT SPRING TO LIFT THE FRONT 4".THE REAR AXLE IS
A DANA 60 WITH 4.56 GEAR LINCOIN LOCK,I TOOK THE ROTORS,CALIPERS,AND BRACKETS
OFF A 1975 WINABAGO,AND MOUNTED THE DISC BRAKE SETUP ON THE DANA 60,TO DO
THIS I HAD TO DRILL THE STUD HOLES BIGGER IN THE ROTORS,THEN I MADE THE
MOUNTS FOR THE CALIPER BRACKETS,WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE CALIPERS IS THE RUBBER
HOSE WILL FIT THE BRAKE LINES THAT ARE ALREADY THERE.THE BOLT HOLES IN THE
YOKES HAVE BEEN DRILLED ALL THE WAY THROUGH FOR BIGGER BOLTS AND E/Z REMOVE,
IF A BOLT BREAKS. THE MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BEEN CHANE DOWN. THE STACKS IN THE
BED WERE MADE OUT OF A SET OF ROLLBAR LEGS,WITH 3 1/2"RAINCAPS. THE TWO BATTERY
BOXS IN THE BED ARE FROM A F-350 FORD DIESEL TRUCK. THERE ARE TWO WATER TANKS
IN THE BED,OFF TWO DODGE PARTS TRUCKS,THE WATER IN TANKS HELPS KEEP THE MUD
OFF THE WINDSHIELD.THERE IS A SET OF DIXIE HORNS BEHIND THE CAB.THERE IS A
TRANSMISSION COOLER AND FAN IN THE BED,TO KEEP THE 727 COOL, THE COOLER IS OUT
OF A 1964 DODGE VAN,AND THE FAN IS OUT OF A 1987 CHEVY CAVALIER. THE TIRES ARE
15X42X16.5 TLS SUPERSWAMPER THAT HAS BEEN CUT.THE WHEELS ARE CLASS II. THE
SNORKEL IS MADE OF3"PCV DRAIN PIPE,THE TOP OF THE SNORKEL IS OFF A 1984 DODGE
TRUCK,THE SNORKEL TOP IS LOCATED UNDER THE BATTERY BOX ON THE 1984 DODGE TRUCK.
EST.COST TO BUILD $3500.00

Hey, Ian, I finally took a break from wheeling with my XTREM TJ. I wanted to send you a few picture of what you helped me build. It started with a broken transfer case in my stock TJ. . . . . . . Then I saw my first episode of EXTREME 4X4, you introduced me to Advance Adapters and Atlas II. Well, one thing led to another - and another - and another ! Not much is stock anymore! Two of my friends Aaron and Keith helped me with the actual build. You and XTREME 4X4 gave me good ideas, information and products. Thanks ! Don't wash your hands ! We aren't finished yet !!!

Everyone always asks........

There are always questions that get asked about the show and about the projects but a alot of you guys are starting to ask more questions about what goes on outside of the Xtreme shop...and why shouldn't you get to know that.

Besides meetings with the execs, talking with the sales guys and looking for new and interesting projects, parts and tools to bring onto the show working on Xtreme is a fun job....but it is still a job. From 8-6 you will find me either in the shop making TV, or working on… Continue

SEMA......... "working" LOL in Las Vegas!!!!!

So I have a few hundred dollars less in my pocket thanks to the Black Jack tables at the Flamingo (a great place to stay in Vegas, not too pricey and fair tables) and trying to recover from many nights of little sleep, too many miles walked, and if you ever hit Vegas, you need to get over to the Rio and hit up the VooDoo lounge for a great night.

But since I was in Vegas for work (if you can honestly call what I do work) lets talk SEMA.

For those of you that do not know SEMA is the Specialty E… Continue

Show 1 for next season is in the can + meeting Ivan Stewart

It cannot be said enough....being me definately does "NOT SUCK" not only do I have one of the best jobs in the world, building wild trucks and crazy buggies, writing TV shows and Magazine articles, plus I get to meet interesting people all the time.

Most recently, Ivan "the ironman" Stewart swung into the Xtreme shop to take part in an interview about his life in off road racing, his partnership with Toyota, and of course play a little Ivan Stewart Off road the video game. When I heard he was c… Continue

So Another season is about to begin

Once again we are about to open the doors and let the cameras in for another season of shooting at Xtreme 4x4. I have all the projects planned and the part orders are flying out the door as fast as new parts are flying in.

It has been about a month since we shot the last episode of the 2008 season and this has been one of the longest breaks we have ever had, sitting down last night I began writing the frist episode of what will be over 20 scripts throughout the season, this is when I often begi… Continue
