'67 and '78 Classics
My 1967 GMC ½-ton 2WD pickup has been in the family for 40 years. My dad had the rig. It had a 305 V-6 engine, 4-speed manual tranny, and 3.73 posi at the rear. The V-6 finally died and was replaced with a 350 V-8 engine with 4 barrel Rochester carb. When my dad got tired of it, my brother took over and pretty much ran it into the ground. I got it from him and got it running again. A neighbor loved it so much, he negotiated for six months until I broke down and sold it to him. He replaced the engine with a 305 V-8 to save gas and a muncie 4-speed transmission. He passed on and the truck sat in his wife's yard for some 10 years when I came across it and negotiated with her to buy it back. Now I have it being "rehabilitated" with my son helping out. We have a Competition "Thumper" cam, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Hooker Headers, Holley 4175 Spread Bore Carb, 350 4-bolt long block, and are looking for a 5-speed that will fit into the bell housing. For now, everything is on "hold" until I get a kidney transplant. Afterwards, I will have the energy to finish it up. We will eventually repaint it and we'll be "on the road again". I will give it to my son who shares much enthusiasm as I do being a shadetree mechanic.
My 1978 GMC ½-ton 4X4 truck came from a guy that bought the truck from the utility company we used to work for. The truck has a Edelbrock SP2P Intake, Holley 4 Barrel Carb, and Competition Cams Hi-Energy camshaft, and a 3.73 posi at the rear. It ran for a couple of years and now the truck is having a 700R4 automatic tranny transplant. The 350 TurboHydramatic gave out one day as I was climbing a rocky hill while 4 wheelin'. After a long search on eBay, I found a 700R4 tranny and NP208 transfer case from a guy near the Grand Canyon. I also secured a master overhaul kit, TCI valve body, Transgo Shift Kit, 5 gear planetaries, Raybestos friction clutches and a Corvette Servo for the 700R4 which took over a year of searching. I hope to have this Jimmy running shortly after my kidney transplant.
These two "project" trucks will keep me busy, as I'm "retired" due to my disability. When I am released to go back to work, I will keep these projects going until they are finished.
No photos yet, but when we get the projects underway, it'll be posted.
