Ritchey I am having the same problem on a mercury mistique 2.0L DOHC. I am going to try to turn the sprockets around to see if the belt moves the other way. If it does the sprockets will need to be replaced. Good luck with yours!

Belive it or not this is the same color as the one we had when I was a kid. Turd brown on the outside, tan on the inside. But this car dose'nt have a 2x4 holding up the drivers seat back. That's what started my love of these cars.
