I’ve been watching since the show came out and thought I might try on the low budget build. I’ve always spent more money than a new car cost on most of my project and was ready to try a new angle. It started off as a 1965 scout that had not moved in 10 years. I got it a week before Christmas of 2008 for $500.00 and began the transformation. First I took my 1987 Blazer body off and sold it keeping the chassis and electrical. Then I did the same thing to the scout except sold the chassis. I then shortened the frame taking 8 inches out of the middle, removed 6 inches from the front and 9 from the back. Most of the scout tub was gone so I drew up new floor pans, tub, and body mounting using SolidWorks and had my Local sheet metal shop form it. I then made new bumpers out of 3/16 plate, and roll cage out of 2 inch DOM tubing. I bought one of those $200.00 benders and took it back to the store after trying it a few times realizing that they don’t work. I then took conduit and bent it to the length and angles that I wanted. I found a local shop that has all the dies for making railing and got my DOM bent for $125.00 cash. Then finding a web sight on line where you can type in the size from, to and diameter of the tubing was able to get printable PDF sheets to print off and wrap around the tube. This was nice as you could figure out your angle, using a marker and draw a line around the tube, pull it out and plasma cut it off. Next was the electrical because I did not remove any electrical I just left it hanging, we were able to reroute it through the Scout and still use the computer for the original drive line. We had to enlarge the dog house as because of the engine location there was no room in front for the battery, we put it behind the engine. Had to also relocate the gas tank and make brake peddle and steering brackets. As there does not seem to be anyone that makes fender flares for the 800, we cut out the metal and used Bushwhacker flares for a 2004 F150. With some small mods we got them to fit great.

We are currently putting a 14 bolt corporate under it using the new Ballistic Fabrication perches, and welding in some skull and bones rock rings from Copperhead Fabrication. We have been getting information from High angle drive line and Alcan suspension for the new springs that we will be putting on.
