Hey Man ! I haven't checked u out in a while, so I thought I'd check you out. You've added alot more pics since the 1st time I looked at ur page. The pics are great. I like the before and after pics. You've come along way with that car, and it is a beautiful ride. I really like it. The engine, interior, rear- under carriage, all that looks fantastic. Good job man!

Looks like we have been and are going through similar operations. Had just got mine back on the road and all of a sudden low oil pressure..... Think I will get the tree warmed up to pull the engine and reload. Glad you enjoyed the video. Your 79 is a nice looking machine. When you get them in that shape it is a lot of work! Or like I tell my family, lots of fun....and a little money.

Happy to be of service!

I see in some of the other comments you were contemplating a composite spring. I have a few thoughts to share with you...

I purchased one for my '72 (the one in primer) from VBP when I was building it for autocross in '91 (or was it '90?). Anyway, I have no negative comments whatsoever about it. While I only campaigned the car for a couple of years steady (and due to work commitments normally only one day of each 2 day event), I never really got all of the "fine tuning" worked on the car.

But having said that, I will also admit that I only got beat in my class 6 times in 2+ years of running the car, all by the same opponent (2 our of 3 races at each of 2 events, i took him on the 3rd event each day), and the car that beat me won the NCCC National Championship for that class that year. My car would typically place in the top 5 time slots (of all classes) at many of the events. My lack of regular participation prevented me from winning the regional slot, as it was all about total points accumulation. So, I would have to recommend the mono spring.

As for the suggesting as to staying with factory equipment, after nearly 40 yrs of modifying factory iron of many flavors, I can safely tell you that aftermarket parts and a sharp guy with a wrench can improve anything that comes out of any domestic and most foreign automakers. As was proven with the original ZR-1, even the most exotic offerings can be improved.

VBP is hard to beat for suspension goodies.

Hey Man ! Its good to hear back from you. Your excitement for the Vette hobby is great. I bought two bad Vettes before I finally got my red 72. Its always been about the chrome bumpered, C-3's, Vettes for me. I guess I picked that body style, because when I was a young kid, I decided I'd dream about a 71 STINGRAY. I was born in 1971, so thats how I came up with that year. As I got older and I kept learning about them, I learned that the 68-72's pretty much all looked alike, with some small, minor changes. So, finally at the age of 35 my wife and I decided that I could start looking. So, I began to look for 69-72, because nobody wants a first year body style (68). When a company debuts a new body style they still have bugs to work out. So buy one a few years old. I love all Vettes, for the money there's not a better sports car in the world. Thats a fact.
A ZO6 will run with $350K sports cars all day long. They cost only a fraction of the money and they get better gas mileage.
Long Live the VETTE

Well, I dont know for sure about the longevity of the spring. But I dont subscribe to that mentality. The one where GM put a lot of time and design into something so let's just leave it be. Speaking for my car its 37 yo technology. Things in time do get better with technology. VBS (vette brake products sell alot of modern day conversion kits to bring old cars to handle and drive like newer cars. Now, dont get my views confused. I am a HUGE GM fan. I didnt just start learning about Vettes, I have obsessed over C3 Vettes since I was a little kid. I like "Resto-Rods". I dont like anything done to the body, because a Vette's curves need "NO" modifications. So, in a nut shell, I like the car to look 100% original, but run, and handle like a new one.
One exception, I want a set of Boyd Coddignton "junk-yard dog" wheels for my Vette. Old Vettes had carbs, but a modern day fuel injection is better. I think to totally dismiss the alternative spring would be a little to quick.
Bowling Green didnt open until 1981. There's actually two lines of 81 Vettes, one from the old plant and one from the new "state of the art"plant. They wanted to distiguish between the two. What GM did was paint the Bowling Green Vettes in a two tone paint jobs. So, if the 81 vette has an original two-tone paint job, its from KY. If its a solid color 81 it came from the St. Loius plant. Although I just read that the first Vette off of the new assembly line was a beige 81. I guess they got the two-tone idea came after the first couple vettes. I hope Im not coming off like an ass, but I've heard nothing but good things about the mono-spring. It probably all boils down to opions and personal preference. If you the chance go to VBP, they have alot of cool products.
Keep that Vette Clean!

Buddyluv's 79 Corvette

I bought this Corvette almost 2 years ago. It was in rough shape, but for 3 grand i figured what the heck, it's a car i've always wanted and finally in my price range (without going broke after purchasing and repairing) was a plus.

It needed alot of work so I asked my wife to-be's father to do most of the work, and he did! Brakes, power steering, engine teardown and re-assembley with new parts, and other thing's. Then Corvette's and Classics in Taunton Ma. took over and fixed the damaged nose a… Continue
