THE CLASSIC PONY CAR with MUSCLE

Start with the desirable 1969 Camaro. Dip it in Chevrolet Hugger Orange paint and splash on a "hockey stick" stripe. Spice it up with the biggest regular production engine Chevy offered in 1969. Polish it off with both the SS handling package and the RS luxury package. Then put your foot in it and enjoy!

My wife and I found this car in June of 2007 while celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on Lake Superior's North Shore. My wife has known for 25 years that my dream car has always been a gen 1 Camaro. Maybe I've always loved these cars because my Dad had an early Camaro when I was 7. Or maybe it's because I had a Nova SS (poor mans Camaro) for the first car I bought. That car was similar in many ways to the Camaro but not quite as cool. So anyway when we saw this car for sale on the side of the road my lovely wife let me check it out. After a lot of research, several visits, lots of phone calls & a few offers we finally bought this Camaro in September of 2007 and started "fixing" it. We replaced the fuel tank, fuel line, radiator, radiator shroud, hoses, fan, power steering box/pump/hoses, headlight doors, motor mounts, headers, exhaust, mirrors, front spoiler, pedal pads, hoses, U joints, drive shaft seals and a lot of other stuff. We poured sweat while detailing the trunk, wheels, seats, engine compartment, underside, paint, etc.

This is a 1969 SS/RS Camaro originally built in Norwood, Ohio in February of 1969. This car is surprisingly original but it has also suffered an upgrade at the hands of a previous owner. It's original engine was an L-48 350 c.i. with a Rochester 4 barrel carb. and dual fuel lines, rated at 300 h.p. from the factory. Apparently that was not enough pony's for somebody. The original block was replaced for a 396 c.i. with a Holley 4 barrel carb, aluminum high performance heads and headers. So this car was revived into an L-89 (375 hp L-78 but with Aluminum heads). This car has its original SS options, power disk brakes up front, quick ratio power steering, cowl Induction hood system, 4 speed transmission, etc. The L-89 option was only installed in 311 Camaros making those cars nearly as rare as the COPO 427's and the ZL-1's.

The RS option consists of hide away headlights, headlight washers (that were unique to 1969 RS Camaro's only), chrome trim around wheels and along roof edge, backup lights below the rear bumper, deluxe interior, rosewood steering wheel, rosewood dash, console, etc. The RS badging on the sides, front, rear and steering wheel were factory deleted when the SS option was also ordered. The car has two other very rare options; fold down rear seat and tilt steering column. Less than 2% & 2.7% of the 243,085 1969 Camaro's built included those options respectively.

My car is special because it's a family restoration of a classic pony car that exhibits all the cool options offered in 1969. All the restoration work was done in our spare time with our spare cash as a family project. Now we enjoy cruising to local car shows together. We joined the Northstar Camaro Club in 2008 to learn from fellow Camaro fans. I have already got some great tips form those smart enthusiasts. We take the car for a ride nearly every weekend during the warmer months.
