vortec 350
i have a stock 350 vortec in my jeep with 5 spd 1 ton (nv4500) and i am looking for some more horse and a way to get the nv4500 to shift faster ( for hole shot or dirt road drifting). this is in the purple jeep. however i do love the torque that the small block puts out. any suggestions from the street.

As for the 350 vortec, there are miriads of upgrades for small blocks. The options are endless. If you are looking for quick, fairly cheap upgrades, look no farther then Jegs or Summit Racing. They offer ram air/cold air intakes, computer programmers, etc. As for the transmission, that is the New Venture 4500, 5 speed manual transmission correct? If so, there are products on the market to enhance shifting by reducing shift throw with a short shift kid, BD offers this, that will greatly improve shift speed and rigidity. (not to mention it makes for a nicer interior appearance) Other than that, Royal Purple makes a fantastic manual transmission fluid that improves shift smoothness and longevity. What are you looking to accomplish with the 350?

The best thing you can do for a Vortec 350 is to swap cams. The factory used a very mild cam is those motors to make low end torque but attempt to maintain fuel economy at the same time. Cam, headers, and PCM work will net you the results you are looking for. The cylinder heads on those are pretty good to start with, swapping heads will gain you marginal results. Look into Wheatly Performance Tuning, they are the people to talk to for Vortec motors.
You could swap in a 6.0 and be done with it?!

thanks for the trans info i know it probably wont shift like my buddies mustang but this takes so long when i drift it i cant keep the wheels spinning so i'll check that out didnt know if anyone made anything like that "short throw" i think is what it is called the the big trans.
