I am restorfiying this 1972 Lemans. It was in a flood in 1994. I couldn't do anything to get it out before the flood came. I am planning to install new wiring, disc brakes etc. I have pressure washed the car, and it looks clean of flood dirt.

I can hear it now go to work tomorrow

"Hey Chris did you get your leaf springs in over the four day weekend like you wanted"

" NO! I got four wheel studs and a parking brake spring thats it"

I did go out and enjoy 2 of those days but still what a defeat

I have them all out that was the easy part
it's putting the new ones in that's causing all the problems
I have two in with no problems the black studs
the silver ones are in place but need to pull them in snug
after I do that and Istart to back off the nut they stick and snap I did use the stack of washers approch
went to two other stores today to find black dorman studs
I found one and bought 4 more extras silver dorman studs
5 new lugs I'll be ready for next weekend
both the same brand Dorman but the silver snap and are a fight to install the black one go in like they where made for it.
I know what you mean about the old heart I was sucking wind, swet pouring, heart pounding, just flat out ticked off that something so simple can cause such havoc

Hey Grumpy
I usually just whack them with a hammer, let them fall onto the ground & then use several flat washers, the lug nut & pull the new ones thru with an air wrench, save a lot of tools & stress on the old heart & system at my old age. That way you can leave the axle in the car instead of taking it out & causing more work.

pull the backing plate off and give them a whack from the backside or a slide hammer gizzmo

then I would need to pull the axel
what about heating?

A hydraulic press works well to install studs. I tried to install some the same way you did & they went in crooked. Bad business.

is there any way that's better to pull those wheel studs in than using the lug to pull them in I wasted a day on them yesterday
