Definatly replace them, if you just patch them, you'll find the next weakest point and have to fix that next. and so on and so on. if you replace it you'll be money and time ahead.
some people can make it sound so easy to just change the color or just weld it in ! There is always more to it than that, plan for the worst makes the job turn out better. Take your time the car is worth it,Good Luck
I'd agree with replacing them. If you have the tools and skills to weld it shouldn't be too difficult, gotdinged is right though be prepared for the worst case. I have seen new rails offered by most of the big names yearone, classic industries, etc. There's a place here in wisconsin that has firebird/trans am rails as well, Browns of Two Rivers their website is www.cooltruckparts.com. If the rails are rotted the floor pans might be bad as well so consider new ones if they're too far gone, those are also availble at browns and the others as well
Do you have access to a welder and port-a power, good selection of tools for that type of job.Read up on frame alignment,a flat floor, four jack stands plumb bob, caulk line, cloth tape measure, drop the bob from location on frame, mark floor, snap lines from marks, take measurements(write them down). This will tell how far off you frame is bent, this trick does work and it`s cheap, free, easy. A frame shop might help. Hope you find the way to fix the problem.Have fun doing it.
