I like my new project it is a 1985 Mercury Marquies that i bought of my grandmother for $150 that has 50000 miles on it. I had to but new gaskets on the intake manifold. It a four door sadan that you whould never expect to blow your doors off.

I used to own a '65 Dodge Dart GT. Originally came with a Hi-po 273 and auto., and I replaced it with a stock '69 340. Eventually I put in a cam and headers for street driving. I ran it buttoned up, with street tires, and turned a respectable 13.90 at 100 mgh. I thinkg it was really good due to the fact that it only weighed about 3000 pounds! My friends that were pumping dollars into their Olds 442, and Super Bee's couldn't keep up......it's really tough when you've got to drag around and extra 800 or more pounds! I think the unit body construction of the light A bodies make a whole lot of sense!!............hp to weight is the objective!

Any econo-box will do but mid-70's toilets work best. And they are economical too because no one wants them!

I have to agree with Ant73. I'd ad late '70s Monte Carlos, too. 4 doors are really a great way to go, though. They bring a little extra weight to the table,so take a few pounds off some where else. Get rid of the impact absorbing part of the bumpers and just use the part that's visible from the outside. Leave the spare tire and jack at home. Put cheap wheel covers on some light Centerlines. Use your imagination. I wouldn't even run headers. Keep the cast manifolds and run quiet duals.

I like anything creative! The most embarrasing defeat was my buddies 67 Mustang losing the 1/4 to a mid 80's Ford LTD II. That guy was running a stout 5.0 with an auto. He had somehow created a ratchet mechanism so he was able to retain the factory column mounted gear selector. He was a smart racer and wouldn't give up many secrets, but he summed it up by saying that it shared the fox platform with the mustang. Who'd of thought, schooled on the track and in the pits by one geezer all in one afternoon!!

I've got a 96 Ford Thunderbird with the 4.6L and I think it makes the perfect sleeper. No one ever seems to think it is as fast as it is and I love the look on the faces of the people when I blow by them. You can use pretty much any of the engine parts that a mustang uses with minimal modifications so upgrading its power isnt to bad. The best part for me is you dont see to many of them done up.
