I have a '66 Scout 800 on a '76 Scout II chasis. Looks like my 345 engine spun a main bearing. I have a 3-speed auto with a Dana transfer case. Any ideas? Rebuild? Can I throw in a Chevy 350 or something similar? Any advice or guidance would be appreciated. Glenn B

I haven't been able to any work to mine since I bought this house.
It's like having an ex wife, takes all my money and gives me nothing but hassels!

Yeah, it is later than I thought. I'm doing a grout job on my bathroom tomorrow so I've got to hit it too.

Going to bed my friend. I'll keep you up to date. I need to add pictures. I may end up just changing the gears in the 44 for now and keeping the original dana 27 up front until I'm ready for a 44 up front. It will make the springover easier since the 27 doesn't have the spring perch cast into the pumkin like the 30 does. the 30 is not much stronger and has drum brakes so it wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

I would love to have the 3:73 you have or maybe even around 3:55. It's only a 2 wd pickup so I'm not worried about climbing a hill or anything like that.

Right now I have a 69 IH pickup with a 4:11 rear end with a 4spd trans. She whines like a banshie when I get over 55mph. I almost have to change the gearing so I can take it on the highway. I know they make lower gears for it but I'm getting pretty tight in the wallet right now.

The original ratio is 4:27. So the higher gears will help top end. I'm worried about bottom end grunt. Overdrives go for about $600-$900 so I'm hoping some day I'll stumble across an old derelict jeep or scout w/ one that I can pickup cheap.

What waz the gear ratio on the old axels? If the newer ones are too different do you have axcess to a overdrive?
