A bad carb will rob massive amounts of horsepower... so it's tough to say how much of your horsepower loss is from the fact that the carb was rebuilt poorly, and how much is from being under-carburated. The Thunder series is a pretty good carb - it's basically a new version of the Carter AVS with the Edelbrock name. After spending some time on the Edelbrock site, the 650 may work well for you. I went with a lot more carb on my 340, but then I've got a more aggressive cam, and a lot lower gears...

i used the program to select the cam i got. the heads are stock, just been worked to accept studs and guide plates to run magnum rockers. i incorporated the use of an edelbrock performer dual plane manifold. the program told me that i should achieve around 312hp at 5000 rpms and 388ft lbs of torq at 2000 rpms. after running it dyno, and factoring the 20% power loss thru the 727 torq flight and 2.87 rear end, i only achieved 185hp at 4300, where i should have achieved nearly 250hp at nearly 5000. i found out the reman 600 eddy was bad, so i am looking at a thunder series 650 from edelbrock. what do u think? any suggestions?

Damn! Keep forgetting AMC and Mopar both had 360's. Still, 600 CFM is too small for that cam and those cubes. As long as you stick with something that has vaccuum secondaries, 750-800 CFM should work well...

You can probably go as high as 800 CFM on the Edelbrock Carb. They're vaccuum secondary, so the motor won't choke on it. You might want to download the Cam Quest program from Comp Cams. It's really pretty cool, and it's free. It lets you experiment with different Head/manifold/cam/carb combinations and run them through a virtual dyno to see what you should expect. Just be REALLY honest about the details of your engine if you want reasonable results.

what do u know about a 360? ive installed an XE256H cam with .477 lift, edelbrock performer intake with reman edelbrock 600cfm carb, magnum roller tip rockers, and HEI ignition. after a run on the dyno, i only got 185hp at the rear wheels. we did determined the carb was bad. what size and type of carb would u recommend for a street application 360 that will give me the best power, best mileage, and good starting?

yep its a 4 barrel. after reading some AMC forums, i think i am gonna go with a 750. that should do the trick and boost me to the horsepower i am looking for. wish me luck.

That 600 carb... is it a 4 barrel? I don't know much about that, just EFI.

been working on my dodge ram. had to replace the thermostat. i pulled my car out of the garage. got tired of working on it and wanted to drive it. put it on a dyno. found it i got a bad reman edelbrock 600 carb from bulltear.com. wont make that mistake again. gotta look at getting a new one.
