before I go cranking on trying replace or repair this window crank on my passenger side door that enjoyed a year's worth of a clamped vice grip when the original handle stripped out, I'm wondering if there is something that can be done to clean up the grooves and keep the mechanics in place rather than deal with the glass, etc. Thoughts?

Kasey- That crank looks pretty stripped out to me about the only thing other than relacing it would be to drill through the handle on the shaft and then pin it in place. If you drill only through the inside of the handle(the part that faces the door) and into the shaft then insert a pin that is slightly longer than the hole you drilled you could still remove the handle to make changes or repairs in the future. It aint easy but it can be done. If you do decide to try this method be sure to leave the inner door panel off til after you finish drilling the hole. You'll have more room to work . Worst case scenario you will have to remove the crank mechanism and replace it.

This is a great idea. Like a carter key to use on the crank instead of that original pin thing they used. I like it.

Thanks again for some good information. I'll keep you posted on my success. I should have the passenger door refurbished first.

Any experience with rehabing an old wood bed, instead of buying brand new?

Would it be possible to put the handle back on, drill through the center of the handle into the shaft, tap and put a bolt in it?
