I can take one finger and push it back about another inch and a half before it makes contact with the clutch cone

GM used tall and short throwout berings in the 70's .the tall ones were usually on c 10 or 20 series you may need a tall one also your z bar bushings may be shot lastly check the ball in the block and motor mounts.

thanks guy, i will try that. I wondered if it might be that fuel mix senser on the carb but i will try that and see if that might fix it.

I NEED HELP.... i am having a issue with my firebird. It is smoking when you first start it and then after you have been driving it and stop. It seems to be running really rich. like almost makes your eyes burn type rich. I dont know what to start with. it is the quadrajet and i think it is elec. mixture controlled. Like i have said all parts that should be there are there just like it was form the factory. oh cruse control works too, but beside the point, does anyone have any pointers of what i should do? i want to try to keep the car original as much as i can, but i dont know what to do

clutch pedal free play problem

A little history first
I have run this Tremec TKO before with these parts with out trouble
stock fly wheel
stock fork
stock pivot ball
stock bell housing
stock adjuster rod & spring
stock Z bar
stock throw out bearing
stock clutch & pressure plate
it all worked great
so now I put in A CENTER FORCE CLUTCH p/n DF161675
it's for a 71 year but it has the 26 spline I need
the part number for the 69 year is p/n DF271739 10 spline.
I'm using a center force kit it has disc pressure plate throw out bearing
p/n N1716

the throwout bearing looks the same as the stock bearing I had been using.
I called centerforce tech line their pressure plate after it is bolted in is same height as stock pressure plate 2-1/8 from fly wheel to cone finger tips.

positive fork is on the pivot ball
positive throwout bearing is mounted correct
adjuster rod is maxed out
the bearing does not contact the cone for about another inch and a half of movement
by the time it makes contact
I have about an inch and a half before I hit the floor
I have not even tried to put it in gear
something is not right why would parts that worked before not work now
the only change is the centerforce clutch plate & bearing
per centerforce is the same and stock specs dementions

is it 71 parts in a 69 body? I know the forks are different for those years.
