if the truck has a lot of miles on it you might want to check the valve springs sounds like they might be a little weak

I keep the same problem over and over, I need some help!! I am sending pushrods through the rocker arms and its backfiring through the throttle body, I dont know anything else to do. I've replace the timing chain and gears, rockers, and pushrods (of course), cam and lifters, distrubitor, plugs and wires. Its in the truck shown (1991), it has a 318 w/ an auto tranny.

I guess we're supposed to introduce ourselves. I'm a Vietnam era Marine SSgt, 4 active from '65-'69 and 7 in the reserves. My first car was a '28 Model A two door sedan. Then a long time without anything special. I recently bought a 2001 Dodge Ram that I'm planning on doing something with. I'd love to find a Mighty Mite or other military vehicle to work on.

Thanks for your service! Semper Fi!
