Not I am trying to discourage you but first visit your nearest VA hospital and talk with some of the Iraqi or Afghan vets and ask them about there experience and if you still want to join the military after after talking with then. My hats to you because of your strong convictions in still wanting to serve in the military. Good luck.

The reason I want to join the military is I want to serve our country. Then I also want to see what our troops have seen.

To all vets of OIF/OEF having problems with there comp/pen I might be able to help you guys since I have done all of my benefits and Well verse on all of the AR Regs also and in's and out's of VA paperwork, CRSA, Social Security. You can get a hold of me either here or palacio@sbcglobal.net and let me know on subject line Help on VA Benefits so I will know why you sent me the email and for what. I would like to help the vets that are having problems filing for there benefits. No one will help you except you have to help yourself. My interest is just to help since I spent twice at the PTSD center and since all of the service members number one complaint is with there benefits of entitlements. This is mine of giving back to the guys....

Hey carhugger, may I asked why you want to join the military? Another advice if you do ended up joining. If you hurt your self during basic training and throughout the rest of your stint in the military which ever branch you decide. Always get a hard copy of all your medical records whatever i might be. You have the right to have a copy of that. Make sure they are all documented as all in the line of duty DA 2173 form. Also if you get deployed to a hostile country and get hurt there make sure you fill out a DA Form 2173 Line of Duty Report. So when your time is up in the military you have all your medical records and you will have proof that all of your medical problem developed while in the military and all in the line of duty. So when its time for you to file through the VA you will have all of your medical history. The VA or the military will help you on this matter. Don't give up and be presistance with all of the red tape. that is how VA works they will denie and denie but just keep on sending the documentation and eventually you will win. Most of the guys gives up so easily. Remember VA will retro all your benefits from the day you filed for your injuries not from it was approve. So if you file a year ago and kept on it and you are approve. The retroactive would be one year from the time your compensation is file and that would be a good chunk of change. Good luck on your decision and hope you sleep on it good before you sign that dotted line. Take care...

the medical part was kinda bad luck if you get hurt as a marine so I should go into the army

Have uncles that were in the marines back in the 60's and 70's both did booth camp at Parris Island, NC. When I did sided to to go in the military they both told me its ok to joined the military except the marines. If you join the marines now and have to be deployed and get hurt which conflict you get sent to. Marines they don't take care of their marines medically as much for instance if you are in the Army. Have nothing againgst the corp have at most respect with them side by side in battle. But when it comes to everything else there is so much thing in the corp compare to other branches. Corp basic training is 16 weeks and like the army I believe less than 16 weeks. As far as push up is concerned it all depends on your age group. Check with your local recruiter and they have the chart for that. I know economic times are difficult. If no one have read an article that a 39 yr old person joined the army due to his wife have cancer so he can get medical coverage for his wife. If you have something going for you already stay but if not due to economic hardship decided to join any branch of the military you got to give it 100 percent of your dedication while your in. (SSG, Army, Retired) Medically due to injury sustained from my second tour in Iraq 05.
