Carhugger, What does it take to be a SWAT member? That depends on the department. I work for a Department that has a minimum number of years that you must work before trying out. I got on in 1999 and stayed on until this past year. I was a team sniper for almost 3 years and then went to entry for 2 years then was a team leader. Working Narcotics helped me more than anything because we conducted so many raids. I was going through doors on a daily basis. How hard? It is like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. I worked hard, played hard, and had a blast....no pun intended. I can say that it taught me a lot of disipline, and no matter how bad things get....I feel confident that I can take good care of my family......Go for it. This is a picture from 2007 (I am far right) when we were assigned security of Air Force One during a Presidential visit. This was my team which consisted of 7 entry and 2 snipers. We have two teams and assigned SWAT medics for each team.

What does it take to become a S.W.A.T. member? If there is training how hard is it?

Working on 14 years so far and would not trade my job. Started in corrections then went to patrol, did the marine patrol for 3 years (a blast), Was promoted to Detective and spent 5 1/2 years in Narcotics and the last year in the Fugitive Division. For 8 of the past years I also spent with SWAT. Now I spend most of my spare time with Beat the Heat. I have been a member for the past 3 years...
Trust me, I have had my share of crappy days but I have never worried about being laid off.....Plent of job security...

That is David Cowan's Beat the Heat 78 Firebird. We built just about everything on this car. Check out our website...chattanoogaheatmotorsports.com. We are both Beat the Heat members in the Chattanooga area. I am currently working on my project that I hope to have ready this next year. It is a 1963 Fairlane which will have a Andy Griffith/T-Bolt look, though it is not a 64 my intentions is for it to be a Zimmy I cop car clone. The attached is a picture when I brought her home after dragging her out behind a barn where she had sat for 25+ years. I have stripped her down and in the process of redoing the metal work myself.....Long way to go
