Thanks Chris for the information!!! I'll do some looking in my area for some 44'S.
I'll also look for a new front axel as well.
Happy :) trails! And B-SAFE out there

Building a Dana 35 is like putting lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. Even light duty four wheeling with cromolly axles gears and locker in it and heavily gusseted it will still be a major weak link that would suck if it broke on you out in the middle of nowhere. I would recommend getting a Dana 44 out of a 80's Jeep MJ, it is the same width as your YJ's Dana 35 and the spring perches are even in the same place as your YJ's perches and the spring perches are for a spring under axle aplacation which is what you have now so no mods required! And to do a spring over axle conversion at the time of installation to get some more cheap, quick lift it would be easy to do. As far as your front axle being a Dana 35 the Dana 35 is a rear axle your front axle is a Dana 30 and as far as it being a c-clip axle its not there is no such thing as a c-clip Dana 30 there is however a c-clip Dana 44-HP rear axle with an aluminum center section made by the Chrysler Cooperation and not actually Dana it just carries the 44 logo in 90's Jeep grand Cherokee's that you should stay away from, BUT the disc brakes and emergency brake cables off those Jeeps convert over to the actual Dana 44,35 or Corporate 8.25 with very few mods. In fact they are the same exact brakes same manufacture, dementions, pads ect that are being sold by Quadratec for $600.00 just already modified with the center hole being honed out and the bolt holes welded and re drilled to the new specs, just a thought, good luck.

Hey All fellow YJ/Jeep owners. HELP I have a 1992 YJ with Dana "35C" in the rear, but the front does not say "35C". I did notice that the front pumpkin cover had a steel threaded fill/drain plug, but the rear has the "Dana" stamped rubber plug. Can somebody tell me why? I also know that most people say the "C" means custom but not clip, is this true. I want to install a SOA lift, but do I upgrade to a Dana 44, or should I get rid of the weak shafts/clip out of the 35C and upgrade the shafts with stronger aftermarket shafts. Seems to me that by going with the 44, I would have a lot more mod's to do like R and R the front and rear leaf spring mounts and plate for the wider axels ECT..... This is the stuff that I have seen on the inter-net and out of FOUR WHEELER. I’m not looking to build a monster Jeep, crawler or murder. I just want a good trail vehicle and not have to worry about one of my rear wheels passing me up as it rolls by. By the way, it also has an OEM somewhat locker in the rear. Just more stress on the small stock shafts.
Thanks,
Tim

Anyone use a Ford 8.8" rear diff? Thinking about building one. I know the 9in" has more options as far as gear swaps with the third member and all but heard the pinion angle is really bad. Any suggestions?
