No Owls, Old Crows yes! Frogs, yes, Little Lambs yes. Can you imagine driving a car in a LARGE Poodle suit ???? IVO drove a AA/FD while wearing a monkey ! suit!! A wize old Owl in a tree says, whoo! R U. OK, back to carburetors. My Fords will run either AFBs (Edelbrock) or Holleys. My 302 Ford is an HO being converted to a Carb & rebuilt then dropped in the '53 PU. After it's running the 283 (292) will get put together for the '49 Ford sedan. I have to keep talking about them in order to keep my enthusiasm up.
Back to you IMP

I did, but it was in 1977. That probably doesn't count as recent xperience. I can say they are a nice carburetor. Easy to build & tune, give reasonable power & economy. And a different appearance that the common Holley & Edelbrock. I always liked the look on a manifold as a single & dual 4 setups.

I haven't taken it off the car yet spike, but the recommended level is 7/16" for the floats. the book shows how to measure that. I will check the choke plate before I take the carb out of the car. I recognize your suggestions from reading the manual, when I have the carb out I'll look over the pump to make sure it isn't disfigured. the exploded view picture gives me an idea of what i want to see i believe for the accelerator pump. i didn't change any of the other settings on the carb so the pump should be in the middle hole of the 3 to adjust the shot

Gen-O, An Edelbrock (or AFB) carb can change the needles without touching any gaskets. You should be able to do the changes easily. How high are the floats ?
Does the accelerator pump work properly ? There are two holes that alter the amount of pump squirt, (or shot ). Is the choke blade opening fully ? Look at these things.

Spike, a quick and easy question for you! I have printed out the owners manual for my carb, an edlebrock 1406 and they have a handy tuning chart in it that lists which needles and jets to install to go leaner or richer. I need to lean mine out as it is running rich with the mixture screws set as lean as I can while maintaining idle speed. I am wondering if there are any gaskets I will need to have before I tear it apart, as I don't want any suprises they don't mention in the book. My problem has been backfiring thru the carb and stumbling from a standing start if I apply too much go pedal. You have already mentioned a vacuum leak which I have yet to look for, but since It's been running rich from the time it was fresh out of the box I know I need to take care of this too. Thanks for the time Gene
