Hi Mr250Shot,
To answer your question. Closed Chamber Heads are a smaller combustion chamber, which as a norm run under 110cc chamber volume, which builds compression without the need for domed type pistons or custom rod lengths.

The Open Chamber Heads run larger Chamber Volumes ( such as the Patriot 119cc ), which enables a lower compression ratio and allows for the use of today's standard pump fuels, without using domed pistons and / or custom rod lengths.

Hope this answers your question, and I HOPE I GOT THAT RIGHT ! LOL

thanks kingmankid for ur input on my build. i think im gona go with tha 454 instead of making it into a496. i guess inches dont always make horsepower.it a 454 thats bored .60over. il sit back and waitt on jack to post tha result of ur combonation with his engine analyzer plus.

That's an interesting proposition, considering I have Engine Analyzer Plus from Performance Trends... I could simulate that engine... Anyone got a healthy shot of enthusiasm? I could use one.

Thanks for the response Mr250Shot,
You didn't mention whether or not you already had the block work done or not to get those inches you are looking for. 4.310" Bore, 6.385" Rods and 4.250" Stroke. If you have not, the budget you mentioned of $3,000.00 will get eaten alive from the machine work alone. Unfortunatelly leaving very little if any for valve train, top end, ignition, oil system and intake. You may be better off building a screaming 454 and applying your money in that direction instead of building inches.
It all depends on what you have to start with and if you can stretch your budget further?

As an example, Patriot builds a decent set of Aluminum Heads, 119cc Chambers, 320cc Intake Runners, Part Number 723-2214 for $1,600.00
Lunati VooDoo Cam with 284 Deg In / 292 Deg Ex, .572" I / .590" E Hydraulic with Lifters under part number 638-60205LK for $ 186.00
Merlin X Single Plane Intake with a 4500 Series Base part number 955-063040 for $327.00
Pro Form 4150 Series top end with a 4500 base 1,050 CFM Rating and annular boosters part number 793-P-1050-AN4 for $ 876.00
MSD 6AL Ignition System part number 121-85551K for $538.00

This Totals $3,527.00 and is all available from Jeg's

The rest of the money you will need would go to the Oil System, Gaskets, Timing Gear, etc... for perhaps another $1,000.00 or so.

Basically, you would have a VERY NICE " Sort Of " street friendly but definately Pump Gas Driveable Torque Monster to play with for under $5,000.00

Hope this helps

If any one out there has a SIMS, run the profile I mentioned above and let me know what the numbers come in at???

Maybe I will build one ... Who Knows

I agree with you Kingman! I also hope for lottery winnings, but that doesnt work out too well either. I certainly wasnt cutting you down for liking what Spike had, that is for sure. I am curious to see what you and Spike say to 250shot here though. Not much budget for a 496BB build. We have more than that in just the short block of the 383 small block I told you about. but we are also trying to make it as bulletproof as possible too

Hey Kevin and Spike,
Half the fun of this site is the help we can all provide to others and the rest would be to dream of the parts the others have. LOL
I have plenty of time and if my teeth keep falling out with old age...the tooth ferry will keep me in money.

How else are we to keep up with our projects? LOL
