yes if fixed corectly but the cost of instaling good seats and all the other stuff they need like bronze guides will add up to about the cost of new aluminum heads that will increase performance way byond what the oe iron heads will.and if the aluminum cracks it is repairable as the iron isent
so your saying they still have a chance
hard seats then port & polish, get the expensive seats that have a raidi on them instead of the straight cut seats, they flow much better&then just a light tuch to the seats 45&top angle to finish off the valve job.(after all the porting is done.&make sure there is no cracks, better yet go with some china aluminum assembled heads.
as for william does your motor need head gaskets??? if not leave it alone till it does,or you buy soem aluminum heads for it, then pull the motor &do it right, keep it kleen. it dosent take much at all of debris falling in the motor and you need a motor.there are some very nice forged engine kits out there now for chevy stuff, you could do it all at 1 time, cam, heads, stroker, intake, all balanced&kleen.do get in a hurry to do something that isant needed at the moment you do deside to do it.Ive seen that too many times.and you need to find a very good machine shop that IS capable& COMPETENT to do the work you will need done.bubba down the street aint the best choice even thow he dose it all the time, check out real well who ever you choose.it,s hard to tell.I have recently been helping a friend at his shop (been there 40 years, performance shop)I had always though he knew a lot & did very good work,I was rong on both accounts.my performance machine shop was across town, we were both doing race motors&street motors+I was doing offshore raceboat motors for aboyt 30 years(now retired)he has been a good friend for a long time and will remain so(I am building a motor for his car now as a favor,he is down to a 1 man shop&works till 9pm most nights)it is amazing what you dont see and what you do think even when your eyes are wide open.everybody has thier own level of perfection&quality.I only want the best, as I have repaired&redone the rest all tomany times.pay the price,do it right, do it kleen, do it once.or do it a few more times.....I think ittill work this time!!!
so took a pair of heads to work to day for spare time to waste so i pulled two intake valves out to c what i had for portting i get to a cylinder and the exh valve is sunk in pretty bad. whats my opptions. r they trash or can i install new seats and port and polish
nice video's you have, that twin turbo 427cu in SBC that is impressive. did you get the starting issues figured out, in the video it sounded like it was fighting to start, and then it didn't want to stay running. i had the same problem. anyway nice site.
