my original auto trans blew up on me while driving, i got it rebuild to handle the new engine. what im realy looking for is a new rear end, im trying to find a ford 9 inch, but all i need for my engine is flexplate and high stall torque converter, i work as a agricultural mechanic so any little roadblocks will be simple to get around

Ryan,,if you run into any snags,,,I'll be more than happy to help you, once in awhile,,you will run into little roadblocks,,but most of the time they are easy to get around. What kind of trans are you going to put behind the small block?

Hello to everyone,,,just joined this morning,I was glad to see that there was a group for v8 s10's,I'm always looking for some new ideas that I can use on "Thumper".Last dyno on my little beast produced was a little over 540 HP@6200,,,torque at 478,so as you can see,it's really getting hard to find the right fuel for her,,,well maybe I didn't put that right,,it's getting hard to afford it,,,but then again, who cares.Glad to be here, any help I can give, don't be affraid to ask.

Nice to have you matari7. In order to get the v8 trans and engine into an s10 you must buy the v8 conversion motor mounts and s10 v8 headers. This swap is very easy to do. I used a turbo 350 trans in mine with the long tail shaft. You can also use the stock radiator, crossmember and firewall. The only thing you need to do with the trans cross member is to make the trans bolt hole slot longer. Thats it. The fire wall is left alone except for a pinch weld down by where the exhaust comes close. Just flatten it with a hammer. It gives you more room to work with. The radiator, balancer, intake manifold, valve covers must all be off. Also take the trans cross member out. 2 driver side bolts go up and their are 2 pass side bolts that go sideways. Bolt the engine and trans together, and leave the motor mounts on the engine block loose. Get a tilter on the engine lift and you will work the engine into the bay. The farther down you go you can start to level the engine more and more using the tilter. Once you get it close to level, with the engine still on the lift, go under the truck and push the tailshaft up as far as you can with a jack and install the cross member. Once cross is bolted in, set the trans mount bolt into the hole with out tightening the nut. Return to engine with the long mounting bolst ready, line up the holes and install the long bolts without tightening. The reason for leaving the mounts on the engine block loose is to allow the engine to sit where it wants. Now you can tighten all the bolts and voalla. Its in. It usually takes me 15 min to install the engine and trans.
