i have a 350 ci with hei,and 650 holley carb.i can not get it to stop boggin or back fire ,sometimes threw the carb. when i throttle it hard? i think the vacuum advance might be bad or the cam?? if i throttle it slow it is tight and sounds good. what do you think?? thanks, jeff we just did the vavles with the engine running. seemed to help a little . still back fires when do a quick trottle? we move the timing and it gets better but then hard to restart?? i think it is a bad cam! we just put a new distributer in it .no differant.
I have had a similar problem with my camaro, the advice I have gotten on the topic is it's likely a vacuum leak. possibly even the gasket between the carb and intake. start with the easy ones, vac advance line. Brake booster line, etc. Although it's not a safe way to test you can use carb cleaner sprayed at the vac lines and if you notice a change in idle speed you have found a leak
