I inherited my brother car in late 70 when he graduated in 76 he bought  a new 77 dodge power wagon 4x4 I got he's car that was a 1966 Ford fairlane G.T.A it come with a 390 Hi Per. automatics but it when bad we put a 4 speed back but  I was same way kept myself in beer and gas when I was  lucky date night but racing the rich kid's that was a joke I ran with a older crowd that knew how to have fun

In the late 70's I had a 68 T-bird with a 429. I was in high school at the time. All the "rich" kids had camaro's and trans ams. I kept myself in "date night, beer & gas money racing those guys. Top end only though. 1/4 mile was iffy. Automatics were no problem but 4 speeds with a kid who could drive would beat me. When I decided to tear down the engine I found about half of the piston skirts in the oil pan! I suspect that I over revved it when one of the 3 or 4 C-6 trannys I'd gone through decided self destruct.

hay ya I'm the kid I had a 80 model F150 with a 429 that I put in it and I agree it came out of a 69 Thunderbird I rebuild it bored 30 over with 11 to 1 flat top's with the closes thing to a cobra jet cam could get and I love it
