Great advice Kevin and right on the money. My question for Mike is , why did you remove the cats??? What were you trying to gain?

Nope, it isnt the regulators. Your Chev truck was a rarity, and in my career as an auto technician, you seldom have to replace a fuel pressure regulator Russ. I have been doing this for over 23 years too! OK, now to Mike. The Ranger should have the "Check Engine" light on since you removed the catalysts. It is equipped with the OBDII daignostics which monitor the catalysts also. YOu said it all started after you pulled them off, so I am going to guess either an oxygen sensor didnt get plugged in all the way, or was damaged. Scan for codes and see if you have codes for either front oxygen sensor. They will be called either HO2S11 or HO2S21. Now your Town Car is being nice, that it is setting a code, why you are getting the engine light. I would see what that code is too. If it has the 5.0L, I would bet it has a PIP erratic code in it. If so, start with replacing the ignition control module. That is a very common problem. If it is the 4.6L, (forgive me for brain farting and not remembering if the Town Cars had 4.6L's in 95 or not) it could be a crank sensor. But I am willing to bet first that it is a bad Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid problem. the newer Fords had a problem with it, keeping vehicles from interrmittently idling or even starting because of it. Check in those codes and go from there. Good luck Mike!

I think I would start with the fuel filters and fuel pressure regulators. I know my chev truck was acting funny and I changed the regulator and it fixed the problem

All, I need some assistance. I have a couple of issues with my vehicles. First: removed cats from 03 Ranger and now it runs like crap. I left the O2 sensors installed. Second: 95 Town car stalls off and on. Once this happens, the check engine light doe not come on and it will not start back up until the Check Engine Light comes back on. It turns over just fine. It doesn't matter the when, where, how. It has a mind of it's own. Any assistance with these two issues would be great. Thanks

Hey, all! Got a favor to ask... The voting is underway for the Texaco Car of the Decades and my Fireball Roberts Tribute '64 Galaxie is hot in the running in the 1960s category with 19 days of public voting still to go. IF it's not much trouble, perhaps you might drop by the site at http://www.texacocarofthedecades.com and help me along in the voting. Check out the other cool rides there and give them their well-deserved votes, too! There might even be someone else you know on there. Just a thought, and keep flexing the American Muscle!
